Sales & Marketing
What I’ve learned over the years is that horse sales are more ethical, honest and ultimately more successful when you put the focus on making sure the horse is a good fit for a new owner. My philosophy is all about putting the right horse in front of the right buyer at the right time. After training a horse and investing time in their development, I always check in after a sale to make sure the match is a good fit. Here are a few recent case studies:
Bobs Diesel Cat, "Diesel"
At $25,000, Diesel was the high selling horse at the 2017 South Dakota Quarter Horse Association Horse Sale. Diesel ( Palo Duro Cat X Star G Grand Acre X Bob Acre Doc) is a gorgeous finished reined cowhorse, winner of 2 NRCHA sanctioned futurities and the 2015 Intermountain Circuit Open and Intermediate Open Snaffle Bit Champion. Strong enough to work all day doctoring calves on the ranch and good-minded enough to bring home a winner’s check in town the next day.
"I'm so pleased with him. My friend who rides a 3-time World Champion Supreme Cowhorse, thought he was a perfect horse. She rode him too. Had a really fun lesson on Diesel today. The trainer liked him too. No negative comments. He did everything the trainer asked us to do."
-Doris Harwood, the buyer of Bobs Diesel Cat,"Diesel." Doris is a highly successful race-horse trainer throughout the Northwest.
Playin with Metallic
Playin with Metallic brought in a $24,500 bid at the 2016 National Reined Cow Horse Association Snaffle Bit Futurity Sale in Reno, Nevada. This highly versatile 2-year-old previewed excellently at this legendary event. This consignment experience highlights Zeph's philosophy of putting the right kind of horse in front of the right owner, at the right time.
Smart Little PG, "Jackson"
Smart Little PG "Jackson" by the good stallion PG Dry Fire and out of the super producing mare Smart Little Til, sold for $14,500 at the Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo horse sale. Raised on Aspen Meadows Ranch and trained by Zeph Schulz, this handsome steel grey gelding was seasoned and ready to compete. He previewed strong in the freestyle, cutting and cow work and went home with local rancher and horsewoman Betty Colgan-Dikoff of Hermosa, SD.
“Jackson is awesome. He’s patient and very good. We will be gathering fall calves next week so will test him out there. But so far, I really love him! Good to know you still wonder how he is doing. I would like to get him qualified for Select World. Plus, I get to use him outside at home! Double awesome!”
-Betty Colgan-Dikoff, new owner of Smart Little PG, “Jackson”
Carmylantalized
We had a lot of fun marketing Carmylantalized, as there was already a lot of excitement around the offspring of Kit Kat Sugar. To present Carmylantalized by Kit Kat Sugar X Mylanta Lano ($92K LTE) at Western Bloodstock LTD, we developed a robust digital advertising strategy that included "geofencing" key markets to build buzz leading up to the sale. With dynamic digital advertising, video and storytelling, Carmylantized showed and sold well in Fort Worth.
